14.-20.08.2006: Estes Park (Rocky Mountains NP) |
On Monday we went for a short walk to Estes Lake and on Tuesday we drove into Rocky Mountains National Park and did a 5 mile walk to Cub Lake. When
we were here 2 months ago we never got to Cub Lake because we got rained off but this time we made it.
On Wednesday we worked on the computer and baked some cakes. The next day we drove to the visitor centre in Estes and got the free shuttle bus into
the National Park. We did a superb 9 mile walk up to Sky Pond. The weather was perfect and we even had to climb up a waterfall. We really enjoyed
the walk.
On Friday we caught the free shuttle again and set off walking up to Odessa Lake. But the clouds came in and when the thunder started we turned
around and went back - It's not safe to walk in the Rockies when there is lightning.
By the time we got back to catch the shuttle it had started raining. By the time we got back the rain had stopped. Judy got back from work and got
out her huge bubble making kit! We spent about an hour making bubbles - or rather Kirsten did and Helen took video and photos!
On Saturday we chatted to Judy and then worked on the computer. On Sunday we went out for Breakfast with Judy and then drove up the Old Falls Road
in the National Park which is a one way, gravel road uphill which wasn't suitable for Winnie. Superb scenery. We got out to walk down to Chasm
Falls.
That evening we finished watching a boring German film that we'd started watching on the computer a few days ago but had to switch off because of
lightning. We speeded up the film a bit and turned a boring film into an hilarious one!!!
