08.11.-01.12.2006: Bahia Kino
It's been 9 months since we've been on a beach so Kirsten was really looking forward to it. After the last few weeks we were both looking forward to a rest! We got hit by a new toll that wasn't there a year ago and made it to a little resort called Bahia Kino just as darkness was falling.

We stayed at a campground for 3 nights and wandered around looking for a free spot. We found a spot virtually next to the campground. There used to be another campground here until a week before we arrived. It had got badly damaged after a hurricane passed nearby and had been bulldozed over.

It wasn't the most scenic of spots because it looked like a building site but it was right next to the beach and it looked like we could park there for free. It was a lovely bay to stay in for a few weeks with fishermen going out every day and lots of pelicans waiting for the spoils.

We stayed in Bahia Kino for just over 3 weeks, mainly at the free spot but we went to the campground in between. Kirsten managed to go sunbathing quite a bit to get her faded suntan back. We went for walks along the beach front, drove down to the old town of Kino for supplies and to use the internet.

It was a nice relaxing time. We helped out one Mexican by lending him our jump cables to get his jet-ski started! We even had a visit from one of the locals who was not quite right. We didn't really understand what he wanted and he just kept staring at us. When he started to squeeze the spots on his face by using the window in our door as a mirror it was time for us to tell him to go away and shut the door. Fortunately he didn't come back!

We found out that the new solar shower we had bought leaks!! We tried to fix it with silicon but that didn't work. We can't exactly drive all the way back to Salt Lake City to return it!! (That's about a 3,500 mile return trip!! - for a $5 shower)

Most days we heard what Helen called the "O" bird. His "song" sounded like Meg Ryan in the film "When Harry met Sally" when she was in a restaurant faking an orgasm!! Hence the name "O" bird!!!

It was a good job we had stocked up at a supermarket before getting here because there weren't many shops around. We didn't trust the meat or eggs here. We were running out of food and then the campground wouldn't give us any more discounted nights with our Passport America card, so we decided it was time to move on.
