04.-10.06.2007: Sawtooth NRA - Northfork - Missoula |
On Monday, Barry joined us and we did a 7 mile walk to Bridal Veil Falls. We had great fun crossing the river over tree trunks, but there was no
river crossing to get to the falls. Barry took his boots of to wade across but the current was really strong and he had difficulty getting across.
We didn't bother going across the river and just took photos from our side. Back at our camping spot, Barry's friend Judy joined us and we made
spaghetti bolognese for all of us.
On Tuesday the weather didn't look very promising, so we decided to wait before we set off on a hike. But it rained and was getting quite cold.
The next day it was even colder and it snowed! So we went to the RV park again and sat in the cafe most of the day and worked on the computer.
The forecast didn't look very promising so on Friday we left the area and drove to an interpretive centre near Challis. After lunch, we continued
towards Montana and stopped just before the border at a Lewis and Clarke Historical site for the night.
On Saturday we drove over the pass and into Montana and stopped at a visitor centre to pick up info. We drove into Missoula and went for a driving
tour around the city. We were more intent on finding the (East) Indian restaurant we had seen in one of the brochures we had picked up.
It took us at least 45 minutes of driving around and around, to find the place and we nearly gave up on the idea. But the food was absolutely great
and it was worth all the problems finding it. It turned out that it was the only indian restaurant in the whole of Montana!!
Afterwards we drove to Wal-Mart where there were signs up saying "No overnight parking" but there were at least a dozen RVs parked up there! So we
went in and asked. We were told to ignore the signs and we could stay for a maximum of 3 nights!!
We tried to get an oil change done at Wal-Mart on Sunday but they don't do motor homes! So we spent the day cleaning and doing the shopping - nearly
$200 - who says you can park up at Wal-Mart for free!!
