For Helen's birthday we drove to Seminole Canyon National Historic Park and did a 10 mile walk to the overlook above a very magnificent Rio Grande. The river marks the boundary between Mexico and USA.

It was definitely worth the effort even though we got badly sunburnt! We also saw a 15foot long Panther cave etching left by the Seminole Indians. Kirsten made us a chicken casserole and potato gratin. Not a bad birthday!!

Once the birthday was over it was back to cleaning! Kirsten worked on the computer whilst Helen did a few hours of cleaning, including getting all the mud of Winnie after the road works we'd been through and cleaning all the windows.

After lunch and more cleaning we dumped and then drove 144 miles to Sanderson where we stopped to get info on Big Bend National Park. We are going to bypass the park and do the 250 miles up to El Paso where we will pick up Kirsten'd mother and drive all the way back to see the Park.

Wednesday was a driving day to do the rest of the long journey to El Paso where we stopped at Wal-mart for the next two nights. There was no compressor waiting for us so we went to a library and send an email to Dave. We also spent a few hours washing quilts, cushion covers and pillows.

On Friday we tried in vain to find the scenic drive north of El Paso but there were no signs and the maps we have are obviously wrong! So we gave up and drove to a casino which is actually just over the State line in New Mexico.

We found the dump station and then we found out that the water and electric hook ups are only $5 per night. So we paid for 4 nights. The rest of the week we spent washing Winnie and doing all the cleaning and sorting out, trying to make some space - not easy!!

We also watched the horses starting off for all the races that were taking place on the race track at the casino. We were parked right next to the start and unfortunately witnessed one horse who did not want to go into the starting box. It reared up onto its hind legs and toppled over backwards. The jockey managed to fall off without getting crushed but he still hurt himself. Fortunately the horse wasn't injured.
