On Monday, we did a short trail along Beech River and went to have a look at a log chute and some waterfalls. After
fish and chips, we drove to Minden white water reserve for another short walk along the river. Then we spent some
time watching two canoeists practicing on the rapids. It looked like hard work!
Riding the waves.
On Tuesday, we drove to Ritchie Falls which was also a perfect spot for a picnic lunch. Afterwards we drove to
Lindsay in search of a campground. The first one we went to didn´t look very good, so we drove 15 miles to the next
one. This one looked far better, but we couldn´t get through the barrier and there was no one around. We wasted 2
hours, all in all, finding out that appearances can be deceptive and ended up driving back to the first campground
where we stayed for three nights. On the way to the shower in the dark, Kirsten had the torch and still managed to
go ass over tit over a metal ring used as a fire pit! Fortunately, only her pride was damaged as she had the torch
and still hadn´t seen it and she had to go back for her shoe!
Wednesday and Thursday were spent updating our website, cleaning out Winnie and doing a mountain of washing that had
been building up for some time. On Friday, we drove to Toronto. On the way, we got 4 litres of drinking water which
we tried to fit into a 3.78 litre container and both got soaked in the process! We didn´t realise the size of our
container until it was too late!
We drove through a lot of traffic and found a Wal-mart where we could park up for the night. The first Wal-mart had a
height barrier across the access drive. That evening we went to the cinema and watched the "Bourne Supremacy" which
we both found confusing, because we couldn´t remember what had happened in the first film "Bourne Identity"!
On Saturday, we spent 1.5 hours battling through traffic to get into downtown Toronto and found somewhere to park for
3 hours. We walked to the CN Tower - apparently the tallest building in the World at 553 metres/1815ft, even though
we thought that the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur were taller and theres another tall building being built in
Shanghai that's supposed to become the tallest in the world when its finished. Anyway, the entrance fee was as high
as the building! - $22 each and too steep for us. So we took photos from below it. Then we went across to Toronto
Island on the ferry and enjoyed a relaxing little wander around with a great view of Toronto´s skyline from across
the water. We also followed a woman along one of the paths who was constantly talking to a white rat on her shoulder!
Yes, it was a live one! Weird!
Back across the water, we went to the start of the longest road in the world - Yonge Street, 1896 km or 1178 miles,
running from Lake Ontario to the far side of Lake Superior! Then we battled with the traffic again looking for
another Wal-mart, again the first one we tried did not allow overnight parking. The second did but we asked for
permission anyway, and got it for the night. 3 hours later a security guard tried to tell us we had to move. We
argued the point until he allowed us to stay - by then it was dark and we had no intention of trying to find another
spot. On Sunday we drove to a campground on the western side of Toronto so we could get caught up with our website
etc and enjoy a welcome shower.
