On Thursday, we said goodbye to Toronto but only after a 3 hour cleaning up session in Winnie - we´d had a visit from a mouse that had somehow got in and attacked the pasta in our cupboard, amongst other things! Unfortunately we had to throw out our beloved Hershey chocolate too!

It was cloudy and raining but we still drove to Niagara Falls. A lot of people had already told us that we would be disappointed with them, especially as we have already seen Iguazu Falls in South America and Victoria Falls in Africa. They were right ... we were disappointed. But at least we were there. The falls themselves are free but it cost us $12 to park! At least we got some photos and took advantage of some free samples from the Hershey chocolate shop!!

Niagara Falls.

Afterwards, we went across the border back into America and it only took 30 minutes to get our 90 day visas. We didn´t have to get our fingerprints taken or get a laser ID from our eyes - just the usual forms and $12 fee and we were back in USA. We parked up on a supermarket car park for the night and then set off for a long driving day through New York State and into Pennsylvania. On the way we saw signs for 'Pumpkinville' and decided to check it out. We followed signs along small, narrow country roads, not knowing what we would find at the end! But it turned out to be a pumpkin farm with lots of little stalls selling all sorts of food and goodies. We ended up buying a pumpkin, a large bag of apples, and some apple butter (which is like a concentrated apple spread).

On Saturday, we continued south, heading for Shenandoah National Park in Virginia enjoying the wonderful autumn colours. But on Sunday, the weather changed from rain to sun and we decided to go to Washington for the day. A disastrous decision! It was a wonderful sunny day - something we hadn´t had for weeks, and what did we do??? We spent nearly 2 hours just driving round and round the absolutely crowded streets of the capital looking for a parking space! No chance! Especially not for a motor home! We finally gave up and drove out again, not having taken a single photo and only getting a glimpse of the White House. We have since found out that we should have parked at a Metro Station far away from the centre - that's the price we paid for not having done our homework beforehand! We didn´t have Washington on our plan because of the elections this year (Nov 2nd) and wanted to avoid it. But on the spur of the moment, the weather changed our minds so we spent a lot of petrol for just a glimpse! Next time we know what to do!
