On Monday, we checked our email and found out that Debbie and Dewey (who we met in Álamos) are also in Barra. So we walked through town to find
their RV. They weren't in so we left them a message.
They came by in the evening and we went out for a drink with them to watch the sunset. Then we had some very messy but yummy hotdogs. We went back
to Winnie for a cup of tea and snacks afterwards.
On Tuesday, we handed in our laundry and then went to sit at a nearby hotel swimming pool with Debbie for the afternoon. We went out for hamburgers
and chips for the evening. The food is so cheap here that you don't need to cook!
We met up with Debbie and Dewey and went for a walk around town. Barra is a very pleasant little place with a marina and beaches, although the surf
is too strong to swim and a lot of people had difficulty getting out of the water because of a very strong undertow.
On Wednesday, we got our laundry back minus one sock! Then we drove up to where Debbie and Dewey are parked which is a lot quieter as they are
building a new hotel where we had been.
Then we went out in Dewey's boat. He's been trying to get it repaired so we had to take our paddles with us just in case!! We sat in the front and
Helen got absolutely soaked! But it was great fun and we got to see the marina with all the huge boats and some of the waterways.
We went over for happy hour with Debbie and Dewey and then Kirsten made pasta Gorgonzola for all of us. Then we walked down into town to hear a
live band - singer and guitar plus backing tapes. They looked like Hippies from the 1960s and the music was from the same era which isn't really
our style.
On Thursday we took a local bus and went with Debbie into Melaque, which is the next town to the north. It is very dusty and sandy but it was nice
to wander around. We also met Heidi and Jacques (we met in Teacapan). They were staying at a different beach.
That evening we went over to Debbie and Dewey and had spaghetti with meatballs and then we wandered into town again.
On Friday, we said goodbye to Debbie and Dewey and headed further south. We stopped at a Pemex for the night. On Saturday, we carried on south and
Kirsten wanted to download her photos onto the computer whilst we were driving along. But the mouse didn't work and Kirsten had put a lock on the
touchpad, so she couldn't use the computer! We will have to buy a new mouse.
We got down to Maruata at 1pm and tried to unlock the computer without the mouse and failed again! So Kirsten was in a really bad mood! But at least
we can camp for free here and the beaches are wonderful.
On Sunday it was too hot to do much. It's definitely getting hotter the further south we get. Kirsten lay in the sun on the beach and then later we
went for a short walk onto the top of a hill for a good view of the bay and beaches.
