The following Monday, 5th June, we emptied all the tanks and did the last sorting out before parking up at the storage area for the night. We packed our bags and got up at 6-30am the next morning to get the bus to the airport.

We had to run for the bus because we found out that we were standing at the wrong bus stop! On the bus we chatted to 3 other women about football - Betty from Trinidad and Tobago was convinced that her team would beat England in the group matches!!!

Our first flight was to Newark and we got great views of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty. We finally got to Hamburg at 10-30am on Wednesday 7th June and had to fight to stay awake for the rest of the day to avoid jet lag.

We barely had time to get anything sorted out before the World Cup started on Friday 9th June. But we did manage to buy some Germany T-shirts and an England one for Helen (of course!!) Kirsten also managed to find a baseball cap, scarf and flag in Germany colours.

We went to Kirsten's brother's house to watch the opening match between Germany the hosts and Costa Rica. We watched on a large screen in the lounge. The only person who wasn't nervous was Helen!! But everyone celebrated the 4-2 win for Germany.
