On Monday, we went over to Don and Yvonne's to give them some books and sat chatting for a while. Then we had another night reading with candles.
On Tuesday, some neighbours came around with a generator which we hooked up to our back battery for 3 hours. It was very noisy and what we didn't
realise was that it wasn't hooked up properly. So the generator ran for three hours for nothing!!
On Wednesday, we chatted to Helmut and Agnes and on Thursday, Kirsten sorted out our maps and various other pieces of paper that we have
accumulated over the years! Helen got everything set up to make a cheesecake and went to plug the whisk into the cigarette lighter which runs
off the front battery. When she tried to switch on the engine, nothing happened!! The engine didn't even attempt to turn over, it was completely
dead!
It was just getting dark and Kirsten went over to ask Helmut if there was an electrical place in the nearest town which was 25 miles away. She
came back to report that Helmut was going to look at the battery tomorrow and sort the problem out. We couldn't understand what the problem was
because our front battery should not be low.
Well there wasn't anything we could do about it at that time, so Helen finished the cheesecake off by hand which we ate later by candlelight!!
On Friday, Helmut came around with another generator which was then hooked up to the front battry and to Winnie's external plug so that the
generator would charge up both batteries at the same time. It turned out that our front battery was dead and not charging up properly. So we
need a new front battery!
By the time we had found all that out, it was too late to drive the 25 miles to Esquinapa. So we drove there on Saturday. Fortunately, the front
battery had held enough charge to get the engine started!
Helmut came with us, and we bought a new battery which had more amp hours but was slightly smaller in size. So we had to cut some wood blocks from
a piece of wood we had to secure the front battery in place.
Whilst we were in town, we did some shopping and got some petrol and then we drove back to park up in our spot at the campground again. Late that
afternoon, a large swarm of bees flew directly over Winnie to a tree nearby. There were hundreds of them, literally. There must have been 2 Queen
bees which were then surrounded by the worker bees, forming 2 nests on the tree. They looked like bee hives but were just 2 large clumps of bees!
We also saw the dolphins for the first time. Two came right up to the waters edge, and threw some fish into the air as they were catching and
feeding. Afterwards, we set up our shower cabin outside to have a shower.
On Sunday, we watched some Mexicans, dressed in appropriate bee resistent clothing, scoop the two bee hives into a bag and take them away to make
honey! Then we went for a 4 mile walk along the beach. Kirsten was given some freshly caught fish which she ate with lots of garlic. It stunk!!
That afternoon we walked over to say goodbye to Heidi and Jacques who were leaving to head off further south. Then we came back to go to "Happy
Hour" at the campground at Agnes and Helmuts. People had brought along pot luck food which was very good! We didn't know that we were supposed to
bring along food - in fact it came as a surprise to Agnes and Helmut aswell!!
