On Monday, we walked down to the bakery to stock up on cakes and bread rolls and managed to get a lift back - it was really too hot. (Well thats
our excuse anyway!) When we got back we went from a dip in the cold water to cool off and then used our solar shower to get clean.
We went over to Agnes and Helmut and brought some cakes for Helmuts as it was his birthday. Other campers came along and we all sung happy birthday
to him.
On Tuesday we went for a long 9 mile walk along the beach northwards, which took about 2.5 hours. We saw a lot of dolphins and then we got
envelopped in mist!! But it was still a good walk. The bonus was that there were a group of us and we would get a lift back afterwards!
We had a drink and some guacamole with tortilla chips which we shared with the others and then got a lift back.
That evening Kirsten went through photoshop with Helmut to show him how to use it and Helen gave Agnes tips for Baja California.
On Wednesday, we got everything sorted out and said goodbye to Helmut and Agnes. None of the other campers were around. We drove out and did a
grand total of 3 miles to get to the other campground where Don and Yvonne were staying.
We parked up and went to hook up, but unfortunately, our sewer hose broke as we were emptying the toilet! So Helen had to shovel it into a bag
and dump it into the rubbish bin!!
Don and Yvonne invited us to a meal at 5-30pm, so we quickly tried to do as much work as possible on the computer and charge up our batteries.
Helen made a carrot cake and whipped up some cream to take with us to Don and Yvonnes.
Yvonne had done a roast chicken with stuffing, mashed potatoes, carrots on cream sauce and a Yorkshire pudding!! Absolutely yummy - a real
Christmas meal for Helen who loves her English food!
We stayed for about 5 hours and were totally stuffed after the chicken. Somehow we managed to find a bit of space for the carrot cake which
Chicklet (Don and Yvonne's poodle) had had her eye on for a long time. Then Chicklet sung for us!!! Yes - a singing poodle! Don and Yvonne sung
Happy Birthday and Chicklet sung along!
Unfortunately, Chicklet had a sneezing fit half way through! Helen said she was trying to blow out the birthday candles! Afterwards we left the
singing to Abba and they even sang in German! Kirsten was gobsmacked and, of course, had to get a copy of the CD. Kirsten's last obsession was
"Jolene" by Dolly Parton, so now its going to Abba in German for the foreseeable future!
After a great evening we literally fell into bed, exhausted!
On Thursday we got up at 7-30am and it was still a mad rush to try and get everything done. We wanted to get to the internet to do an update but
we needed to get there before they close at 1pm. We said a very quick goodbye to Don and Yvonne but we were still too late to make it to the
internet!
On the drive further down the coast we saw two "near miss" accidents caused by mad Mexicans who all seem to insist on overtaking in the most
dangerous way possible!! Every time you drive around a bend, you have to watch out for people coming from the opposite direction who are probably
overtaking on that bend!! No wonder there are so many crosses on the side of all the roads here.
In San Blas we found a bakery that made Banana bread and stopped to buy a loaf. We parked up near the beach front by some Palapa restaurants but
decided to move later on as we were alone and park up in the town to be safer.
On Friday Kirsten tried to do an update of our website but had problems with one of the servers in Germany so we couldn't do it. Then we drove
further along the coastal road through banana and tobacco plantations. We picked up a pineapple and some water melon and then drove to a beach at
Chacala.
The campground is basically just a place to park at the beach. The main area was already full and after speaking to one of the other campers we
walked further along to an area with some palapas and huts.
There was a space next to one of the huts, so we asked the owner if the space was free, which it was and we haggled a price of 50 Pesos a night.
We walked back to Winnie and drove up and reversed into the spot. Then a rude American came along and told us to move because we had "stolen" his
spot!! He'd parked his RV somewhere else for the day but obviously hadn't told the owner that he was coming back and probably hadn't paid either!
But he still didn't want to hear what we had to say and kept accusing us. So we went further and found another spot and this time we haggled down
to 35 Pesos for a night! So the American saved us some money!
On Saturday we had a relaxing day and Kirsten went for a dip in the water. On Sunday morning, we were woken up by noisy chickens. It was still
dark outside so it was about 5am. Helen got up intending to shoo them away, but when she got outside she couldn't find them. They were a lot
further away than she had thought and had to give up!
Later we went for a short walk along the sand road packed with tacky stores selling beach paraphernalia and then along the beach (it's only a small
cove). Well it's OK for a few nights and its cheap.
