We said goodbye to everybody in Álamos, although we will probably be back in a few months, and then headed off south. We got lost trying to find
the free road and had to get directions from a local policeman who even drew us a map!
We didn't get down to Mazatlan until late the following day and had to drive the last stretch in the dark - we try to avoid that in Mexico. We
pulled into the Pemex and met up with Karin and Roland again.
We told them we were going to walk into town and get some fast food. They offered to feed us thinking we hadn't got anything to eat, but we had
planned on the fast food!! So we walked just around the corner and had a huge burger each from one of the Mexican street cafes. The burgers were
so thick we could hardly manage to eat all of it.
We wandered down the main street for a while and Helen tripped on a raised drain cover. She would've fallen straight on her nose but Helen's
shoulder slammed into Kirsten's bum which saved the day and Helen managed to keep herself from hitting the deck!
The next day we sat in an internet cafe with Karin and Roland and Kirsten got their computer online for them and set them up with Skype which took
about 2 hours. Then we said goodbye to them but we may meet them again in South America.
We drove further south and went to Las Lupitas beach in Teacapan where we met up with Helmut and Agnes. We didn't arrive until nearly sunset and
the campground was so full that we had to park right at the end of the beach. We found out later that they have booked a tour in South America with
Jeanette and Uwe (www.panamericanatour.de) who we have been in contact with a lot recently. Small world!!
We spent a month on the beach without electricity but we used candles so it wasn't a problem. We put up a tarp outside to provide shade which we
attached to Winnie and the nearby Palapa and used the solar shower a great deal.
It was a very relaxing time and a lot of it was spent with Helmut and Agnes who showed us photos of their recent trips to South Africa and
Australia. There were lots of sunsets to be watched followed by toasted marshmallows and we also did a lot of walking along the beach which is very
long and you can walk all the way to Mazatlan if you want, although it's about 80 miles away!
We sold one of our bikes to Lesley and Uli who are English and German respectively and were staying on the campground and then we went with them
to see some very cute puppies and then some mean alligators!
Soon after we arrived it was Agnes' birthday and all the campers brought a dish of food to be shared by everyone. There was a huge bonfire that
Helmut had built but you got smoked out if you were sitting in the wrong wind direction!
We met up with Don and Yvonne again who we met 2 years ago when we were here and Yvonne had a lot of fun at the local carnival in Teacapan,
smashing confetti eggs on the local children's heads. They really enjoyed their revenge!
Thursday's were shopping days and Kirsten got a ride with Wolfgang, Helmut and Agnes into Escuinapa to pick up supplies and we walked over to see
Don and Yvonne and Kirsten played a game of ladder ball where you throw 2 golf balls attached together by an 10 inch long piece of rope onto a
three rung ladder. Three points for getting it to land on the top rung.
We also managed to see the "Green Flash" which is where the sun turns green for a split second as it dips below the horizon which is something we
never saw two years ago.
